Genocide memorial
Earl: we went to the genocide memorial the other day and learned new things also saw some horrible things. the memorial was very depressing and what made it worse was being around people who lost family members in the genocide. most of the facts i already knew but there was a lot of new things i also learned.what stood out to me was the mass graves because u can see some of the caskets in one of the mass grave spots that just made you feel terrible inside.the other thing that stood out was all of the bones that was left behind and the weapons that were used.when i visited the children's area it was the worst because it reminded me of the kids that are in the village now. the two that i remember was the baby who was slammed into the wall and the two kids who was blown up in their bath. thats just to sad.At times i didn't even want to stand by gilbert and mukiza because i couldn't imagine what they were going through while being there. just looking at them made me feel awful inside.Theres not much i can say about the experience because overall it just left me speechless. This experience was nothing like how i felt when i was learning about it in class. after all of this i feel like i am an expert in the genocide and want people to know more about it and to prevent other genocides from taking place including the genocide in Darfur.
